PETER FARRELLY was born in London in April 1944, the second youngest of five boys. Along with the family he immigrated to Australia in late 1952 and they settled at a farming community at Maerannie, just North of Singleton in NSW.

Peter left school at 15 and for the next two and a half years worked on several dairy farms in the district. Becoming bored of the life, and being a bit of a rebel at the time, he joined the Australian army hoping for a change and a chance at seeing Australia.

For the next twenty years Peter served honourably in 1 RAR, RAASC (ASCO) and finally as a purchasing officer with RAAOC. During that time Peter served two tours of duty in Vietnam, six years in Papua New Guinea, and in every state in Australia.

The transition to civilian life was another adventure, and after owning and operating a successful Brisbane pool building service for several years, he sold the company after he was approached to manage a pool accessory manufacturing concern. Here he remained for ten years until he was again approached to manage an opposition manufacturer.

This business prospered under Peter’s guidance, and grew as it began exporting their products around the world and Australia. From domestic chlorination to massive chlorination units capable of chlorinating ten million gallon resort pools, the company continued with its expansion growth.
Sadly, due to illness he was forced to retire in early 2000.

He built the family home and now lives on a small acreage in Burpengary with his wife. His son, and three grand children live not far away and his daughter and grand son live in Melbourne.

Peter has been a member of the VVAA Brisbane North branch for ten years and has served the members and the association as Secretary and Treasurer for many years. Due to the many positions he currently holds, he is well liked and respected by the members and is quietly known as our “Minister for Everything”.

Peter’s tasks are many and varied, and none of us could possibly conceive or even remotely understand the load he quietly and without complaint shoulders and carries with an enthusiasm that is as endless as his energy. In the years that this man has been an active part of Brisbane North, he has achieved notability as being without doubt, the best organisational mindset this sub branch is ever likely to have had the honour of being a member.

Peter has been the face, the strength and vigour behind every conceivable project we have undertaken, with the returns being a healthy branch financial status, a wealth of comforts, a warm reception, and a feeling of satisfaction from members of a job extremely well done.

Peter was honoured with Life Membership in 2006 for his services.
